Russia appreciates SCO's decision for objective evaluation of Russia's peacekeeping efforts – Medvedev

DUSHANBE. Aug 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has expressed appreciation to the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for the understanding and objective evaluation of Russia's peacekeeping efforts aimed at opposing Georgia's aggression against South Ossetia.

"Unfortunately, we have to state that attempts are being made to secure certain interests using force, not the principles of strict observance of international law and denial of confrontational bloc thinking," Medvedev said at a meeting of the heads of state of the SCO countries.

"A fine example of such irresponsible criminal actions is Georgia's aggression against South Ossetia. It is well-known who connived with the Georgian authorities and even incited them, pursuing their own profit. Such behavior is unacceptable and should be stopped," said Medvedev.

"In such an extreme situation, we remained reserved and continued our responsible and predictable policy. We appreciate your understanding and objective evaluation of the peacekeeping efforts taken by Russia," Medvedev told the leaders of the SCO countries.
