Nearly two-thirds of Ukrainians still against accession to NATO - poll

KYIV. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Most Ukrainians are still against Ukraine's accession to NATO, a public opinion poll of 2,005 respondents conducted by the Sofia social research center on September 9-17 has found.

If a referendum on Ukraine's accession to NATO was held at the present time, 61.2% of people would vote against it. In May 2008, the number of opponents of Ukraine's NATO membership was 61.0%.

The number of those supporting the idea to join NATO has grown to 23.7% in September from 21.4% in May 2008.
