ST. PETERSBURG. Sept 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian law enforcement and security services officers carried out an anti-terrorist training exercise, Vysotsk 2008, in the Leningrad region on Thursday, a source at the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region police department told Interfax.

The exercises were held on premises of the Vysotsk-Lukoil site under the aegis of the National Counter Terrorism Committee.

"The exercise modeled the liberation of hostages, the neutralization of terrorists, and the cleanup of the aftereffects of the incident," the source said.

The officers practiced the interaction of law enforcement agencies in the prevention of terrorist acts at fuel and energy facilities.

"Representatives of security services and law enforcement officers of G8 and countries of the Baltic Sea region were observing the exercise. UN and OSCE [Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe] observers were there as well," the source said.

Delegates from the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Japan, Norway, Finland and Estonia also discussed anti-terrorist measures at a St. Petersburg conference on Thursday, he said.
