Chisinau agrees to Voronin, Smirnov meeting in Tiraspol – Transdniestrian Foreign Ministry

TIRASPOL. Sept 26 (Interfax-AVN) - After Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov refused to meet with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin in Novye Aneny, Chisinau suggested that the presidents meet in Tiraspol, the Transdniestrian Foreign Ministry said in a press statement.

"Currently, Moldovan and Transdniestrian authorized officers are working actively on the possibility of holding such a meeting, trying to determine the mutually acceptable parameters of the high-level meeting, first of all, the date of it," the statement said.

The two presidents were expected to meet in Bendery on Thursday. It was announced later that the meeting had been canceled. Chisinau and Tiraspol blamed each other for intentional disruption.
