MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The global implications of the settlement of the situation in the Southern Caucasus are quite an encumbrance to Russian politics, said Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov.
"We had to act that way, and we were not guided by geopolitical reasons. The global implications of the settlement of the Caucasus crisis wee generally predictable. They are quite an encumbrance for Russian politics," Denisov said at a meeting of the Russian Association of International Research held in the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations.
"Russia will not allow any more military attacked like the attack against Tskhinvali. We have prevented Georgia's aggression and we will not allow it to happen again," he said.
"The effective response to Georgia's attack prevented the destabilization of the situation in the Caucasus and the elimination of hopes for international peace and guarantees of humanitarian security," said Denisov.
"Russia has proved its ability to make very difficult, but in this situation the only possible, independent decisions," the diplomat said.
