Motor-Sich launches plant to maintain engines for Russian Defense Ministry aviation program

KYIV. Sept 26 (Interfax-AVN) - OAA Motor Such will launch a plant to maintain engines for the Russian defense Ministry's program in Dubna, Moscow region, before the end of 2008.

The purpose of the project is to ensure that the technical maintenance of Zaporozhye engines meets the world standard, Vyacheslav Boguslayev, board chairman and general director of Motor-Sich, told Interfax at the 6th international aerospace show Aviasvit-XXI,.

"If they make engines there, it does not mean that production is being moved - it is a colossal amount of money," he said.

The plant will start operating at full capacity next year, Boguslayev also said.

Investment in the project has now reached $5 million, and the total amount of investment in the project in the next four to five years is projected at $80 million, he said.

Motor-Sich is one of the largest producers of engines for aviation equipment and industrial gas-turbine installations in the world. It supplies its products to 106 countries. Russia accounts for some 50% of the company's total exports.
