Rosaviatsia suspends Boeing-737-500 flights with navigation systems identical to that of crashed Perm flight

MOSCOW. Sep 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Federal Air Transportation Agency (Rosaviatsia) has suspended Boeing-737-500 flights with onboard navigation equipment identical to that of a Boeing that crashed in Perm, a Rosaviatsia source has told Interfax.

Rosaviatsia chief Yevgeny Bachurin banned Boeing flights of Aeroflot-Nord airlines until its pilots are properly trained to handle a complex navigation device using special indication for direction pointers.

"All other air companies were ordered to intensify crew training," the source said.

Earlier, the Rosaviatsia commission to investigate the Perm crash did not rule out that peculiarities of the pointer indication in the Boeing-737-500 navigation device might have been responsible for the crash that killed 88 people.

Aeroflot-Nord, for its part, has decided to replace the navigation device on its second Boeing and filed a corresponding request with the Boeing company.
