MOSCOW. Sep 30 (Interfax-AVN) - During the "five-day war" in South Ossetia, Russian servicemen faced tactics used by the U.S. army, commander-in-chief of the Russian Ground Forces General Vladimir Boldyrev announced Monday.
"For the first time we were confronted by military unites organized and trained according to NATO standards. Their tactics corresponded to combat technique adopted in the U.S. army. A distinctive feature of these tactics is inflicting maximum losses on the adversary, predominantly without direct engagement," Boldyrev told reporters.
The Georgian army was formed with "emphasis on creating troop formations balanced from the point of view of reconnaissance means, control and attack using NATO principles and standards," the general said.
