EU observers in Georgia have only patrol functions - Russian peacekeepers' headquarters

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The EU military commission's mandate in Georgia gives them only patrol and observer functions, Vitaly Manushko, a spokesman for the Russian peacekeeping force in the Georgia- Ossetia conflict area told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The EU military observers will fulfill their functions without weapons, and the patrolling will take place in two cars in every direction," he said.

"The creation of observers' posts by the EU military mission is not envisioned," said Manushko.

The mission will be composed of 22 people, he said. To ensure the EU observers' security, two field officers will be deployed in Gori and Bazaleti, he added.
