Pacific Fleet warships arrive in Japan to join maneuvers

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Two Pacific Fleet warships, the large anti-submarine vessel the Admiral Panteleyev and the rescue boat SB-522, have called into the port ofMaizuru in Japan on an official visit to join Japanese naval maneuvers.

"Russian and Japanese warships will practice joint maneuvering and liaison operations," Russian Navy spokesman, Captain First Class Igor Dygalo told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The visit is part of a plan for the Fleet's international activities under the flag of Deputy Commander of the Fleet's Primorye force, Captain First Class Viktor Sokolov," he said.

The Russian crews will lay wreaths and flowers to a national memorial at the Japanese port and meet with the commanders of the fourth escort flotilla of the Japanese naval forces and with the Maizuru mayor.

The visit is to last until October 3.
