Criminal case opened into attack on Ingush interior minister

NAZRAN. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - A criminal case has been opened into an attack on Tuesday on Ingush Interior Minster Musa Medov by a suicide bomber.

"A special investigations office from the Ingush department of the Investigative Committee within the Russian prosecution system has opened a criminal case under Article 317 (an attempt on the life of a law enforcement official) and Article 222, Part 1 (illegal discharge of weapons and ammunition) of the Russian Criminal Code," the office told Interfax.

The incident occurred near No. 25 on Kartoyev Street in Nazran at 8:20 a.m. Moscow time Tuesday. Medov was traveling in a police car accompanied by other cars carrying police officers when an unidentified man in a white Lada 2107 car without license plates set off an improvised explosive device planted in his car.

The explosion did not hurt Medov and his retinue. The attacker himself was killed, and the blast damaged houses located near the scene of the incident, it said.
