Sukhoi, S. Korean trade agency sign memorandum on mutual understanding on SSJ 100 project

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company and the Korean Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) have signed a memorandum on mutual understanding regarding the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) project, the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company said.

The memorandum was signed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft First Vice President Igor Vinogradov and KOTRA President Hwan-Eik Cho.

The memorandum envisions the agency's assistance in selecting South Korean enterprises that Sukhoi Civil Aircraft views as potential partners in cooperation on the SSJ 100 project.

If orders are placed with Korean enterprises on building certain SSJ 100 components, KOTRA will provide relevant organizational support to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, the memorandum says.

KOTRA also plans to support the promotion of the SSJ 100 projects on Southeast Asian markets, including the South Korean one.

"We do consider Korean enterprises as potential manufacturers of components of certain systems to optimize the company's production process," the company quoted Vinogradov as saying.

Hopefully, thanks to the memorandum, Korean companies and Sukhoi Civil Aircraft would be able to arrange broader cooperation in exchange of state-of-the-art technology to help develop aircraft manufacturing in their countries and diversify economic ties between South Korea and Russia, KOTRA President Hwan-Eik Cho said.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft is a subsidiary of the Sukhoi aircraft holding and the Sukhoi Superjet 100 program is its starting project of building a new family of Russian regional aircraft.

KOTRA is a nonprofit government organization set up in 1962 primarily to promote exports of South Korean products. KOTRA currently has 103 offices in 74 countries.
