ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev does not think that there are any solid reasons for a cold war today and does not think reasons will appear after the presidential elections in the United States.
He stressed that in the past the cold war stemmed from ideological differences. "Today we don't have any ideological differences which could spark off a cold or any other war," he said at a press conference after his talks with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.
"Whoever becomes the president in the United States, his number one task will be to deal with the domestic economy," Medvedev said.
Still he did not rule out the possibility of the of Russia's relations with the United States and NATO becoming aggravated. "NATO countries have given us signals by curtailing cooperation in specific fields but I am not over dramatizing the situation. The cooperation is no less important for them than for us. Ultimately everything will be restored in full," he said.
