MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Security Council's Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has dismissed claims about the unique nature of the Kosovo situation and said that the Kosovo precedent could prompt separatist trends worldwide.
"Despite the claims about the "unique" nature of this conflict, the Kosovo experience is already having a significant impact on international politics. It is creating a threat for poly-ethnic countries, in which the question of national identity is a poignant issue," Patrushev said in an interview that will be published in the Izvestiya newspaper on Thursday.
"Leaders of separatist movements in Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, China and Turkey can cite the Kosovo example in announcing their plans to step up fight for self-determination of their people," Patrushev said.
