LYUBERTSY, near Moscow. Oct 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian helicopter company Kamov will bid to sell some of its helicopters to India via a tender regarding the purchase of 197 light helicopters that has been announced by that country, said Kamov's executive director, Roman Chernyshov, on Friday.
Kamov will offer the Ka-226T helicopter for tender, and there is an alternative proposal for having Ka-226T's manufacture in India under license, Chernyshov told reporters.
Venezuela is also becoming interested in the Ka-226T, Chernyshov said. "A bid has come from Venezuela concerning the possibility of manufacturing this helicopter under license. We are giving it consideration," he said.
The Ka-226T is a good helicopter to use in mountainous localities, Chernyshov said. For example, it has a service ceiling of 6,000 meters, he said.
Kamov General Director Sergei Mikheyev said the Ka-226T is fitted with engines produced by French company Turbomeca and this increases the helicopter's resistance to high atmospheric temperatures.
If one of the engines fails, the helicopter will still be able to land from an altitude of more than 2,000 meters with an atmospheric temperature of plus 55 degrees Celsius, Mikheyev said.
