Explosives-laden car defused in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 7 (Interfax-AVN) - St. Petersburg police have defused an explosives-laden car parked near a mosque, a source with the city's law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"The St. Petersburg department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior Ministry told the St. Petersburg police department at 1.30 a.m. on October 6 that they obtained information that a VAZ-21053 vehicle, allegedly laden with explosives, was parked near a mosque near the Pyaterochka store," the source said.

A decision to unlock the car using special equipment was made, given the threat of a terrorist attack. An examination carried out at a laboratory of the regional FSB department showed that the substance seized from the car's trunk contained hexogen weighing 640 gram and is possibly an EVV-11 elastic explosive device.

Steps to establish the whereabouts of the car owner are being taken.
