MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Kamov Helicopter Company is considering modernization options for the Kamov Ka-52 reconnaissance/attack helicopter, Kamov Executive Director Roman Chernyshev told Interfax-AVN.
"We started to consider Ka-52 modernization options in April. The modernization can start with the end of Ka-52 state tests," he said.
The Ka-52 'Alligator' multifunctional all-weather chopper is a two-seat modification of the Ka-50 'Black Shark' attack helicopter. The Ka-52 is capable of various combat missions day and night in any season. It is a command vehicle bound to raise the efficiency of helicopter groups.
The coaxial Ka-52 differs from the previous modification with a broader nose and a two-seat cabin, in which the pilots ejector seats are located side by side. Both crewmembers have unlimited access to piloting. The cabin is armored. There is a trainer version of the helicopter as well. The high flight characteristics of the coaxial chopper make it possible to maneuver in a limited space and take an advantageous position within the shortest time.
The 'Alligator' is not inferior to the Ka-50 by fire power and exceeds any other combat helicopters by that measure.
The maximum takeoff weight of the Ka-52 is 10.4 tonnes. The combat load is 2.8 tonnes. The maximum horizontal speed is 310 kilometers per hour, and the cruise speed is 250 kilometers per hour. The dive speed is 350 kilometers per hour. The hover ceiling is 3,600 meters, and the service ceiling is 5,500 meters. The flight range is 250 kilometers.
