MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The large landing ship Yamal of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has visited the Greek port of Kerkira after completing its five days voyage from Sevastopol.
Under the program of the visit, which is unofficial, the voyage's commander Oleg Ignatyuk and Yamal captain Alexander Kononenko paid a visit to Kerkira Deputy Mayor Spilos Zumpoulivis and Captain Atanasios Rapris, senior naval commander on Corfu, the Black Sea Fleet information service told Interfax on Tuesday.
"On Tuesday afternoon, the Black Sea Fleet sailors laid wreaths of flowers to the monument to Ioanis Kapodistrias, the first president of Greece, and Admiral Fyodor Ushakov. The Black Sea Fleet's orchestra played the national anthems of Russia and Greece," Interfax was told.
Officials from the civil and military administrations of the Ionic Islands and Kerkira met with the Russian sailors aboard Yamal on Tuesday, said the information service.
