Head of Rada commission summoned for Security Service interrogation

KYIV. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Head of an ad hoc Verkhovna Rada commission for Ukrainian arms deliveries to Georgia Valeriy Konovaliuk has been summoned to the Security Services.

He was summoned in relation to an investigation of the leakage of classified information, the Security Service press office announced.

The Security Council also issued a statement following Konovaliuk's announcement that video footage related to the armed conflict in Georgia would be released with the assistance of the Russian embassy.

"To the detriment of Ukraine's national security the video footage is based on untruthful claims of the Russian web publication Russia.ru about the alleged involvement of Ukrainian citizens in the Russian-Georgian conflict that were fabricated by Russian law enforcement bodies and special services and later refuted by international experts and international organizations," the statement says.

The Security Service officially warned Konovaliuk against committing a crime that would damage national security.

"Konovaliuk has been warned about liability for disseminating untruthful information compiled with the assistance of Russian special services, for spreading inventions based on it that artificially create tension in Ukrainian-Russian neighborly relations," the press service said.

On Tuesday Konovaliuk told the press that his commission had found evidence that Ukrainian nationals had been involved in the conflict in the Caucasus.

"We have been informed that over 15 citizens of Ukraine, very regrettably, took part in that armed conflict. We don't regard this as the actual stance of the state but we are thoroughly checking this information," Konovaliuk said.

He said that the commission has the passport data of the individuals in question, video footage and other evidence proving that the aggression had been planned and that it ran counter to Ukraine's strategic interests with all other countries.

Konovaliuk also said that the commission was ready to report its early findings to deputies.
