Explosion kills Defense Ministry serviceman in Chechnya

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax-AVN) - A Russian Defense Ministry serviceman has been killed as an improvised explosive device went off near the village of Goi-Chu in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya on Wednesday.

"An improvised explosive device equivalent to 1 kilo of TNT exploded in a forest near the village of Goi-Chu in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya," a law enforcement source told Interfax.

The explosion occurred when Russian Defense Ministry servicemen were engaged in a search and reconnaissance operation. The commander of a reconnaissance unit died on the spot from injuries he sustained in the blast, the source said.
