S.Ossetia blames Georgia for provoking presidential motorcade incident

TSKHINVALI. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - South Ossetia's Foreign Ministry sees the incident involving the Georgian and Polish presidents, which occurred at the national border between Georgia and South Ossetia on November 23, as Tbilisi's provocation.

"Having studied all the circumstances surrounding this incident, South Ossetia Foreign Ministry has concluded that the provocation was planned beforehand and personally organized by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili," South Ossetia Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Monday.

Particularly regretful is the fact that, "this provocation involved, deliberately or not, the president of Poland, a country which is not only a NATO member but also a member of the European Union which undertook to provide regional security and prevent destabilization in its responsibility area outlined by the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan," the ministry said.

Last night Georgian media outlets reported about a motorcade carrying the Polish and Georgian presidents being fired on. The fire was allegedly coming from the Akhalgori district located in the buffer zone between Georgia and South Ossetia.
