BAKU. Dec 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Some 150 Azeri peacekeepers have returned home upon completing their mission in Iraq, the Azeri Defense Ministry's press service told Interfax.
"The peacekeeping contingent of 150 Azeri solders returned back to the country in line with the decision of the Azeri parliament on November 11, 2008," the press service said in a statement.
Representatives of the Defense Ministry, the U.S. and the Iraqi ambassadors to Azerbaijan and relatives of the soldiers took part in the meeting ceremony.
Fourteen Azeri officers, 16 sergeants and 120 privates were guarding a water reservoir and a hydropower plant in Iraq.
Earlier, the Azeri parliament decided to withdraw peacekeepers from Kosovo As of today, 90 Azeri soldiers are members of the international peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan.
