Russia calls for continuing strategic arms control - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Some of the agreements on strategic arms control should continue to be in effect, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"We would like to see many mechanisms of strategic arms control continue to be effective and, where necessary, adjusted to the current conditions," Vladimir Voronkov, Director at the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of European Cooperation, told a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

The next U.S. administration will have to seriously address this problem, he added. "It is clear that the new U.S. administration and President Obama himself will face and will have to respond to these issues," the Russian diplomat said.
