TBILISI/TSKHINVALI. Dec 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian Interior Ministry confirmed a gunfire attack on a vehicle of EU monitors in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone.
"Gunfire was opened on a vehicle carrying EU monitors near the village of Khviti in the Gori district from South Ossetian positions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday," the ministry said.
The car was damaged, but no one was hurt, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Tskhinvali denied its alleged involvement in the shooting incident. The Georgian village of Kvemo-Khviti, near which the incident allegedly occurred, is located 1.5 kilometers away from the South Ossetian border, South Ossetian Deputy Defense Minister Ibragim Gasseyev said.
"Even the best firearm has the range of less than 800 meters," he noted.
"They should not blame South Ossetia for the incident," he said.
Russian television said earlier that the EU monitors' vehicle came under fire in Kvemo-Khviti on Wednesday morning.
According to the televised reports, the car was carrying three EU monitors. None of them was hurt, as the vehicle was armored and the bullets could not pierce the windshield or the hull.
EU monitors have not commented on the incident as yet.
