MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to react toughly to crimes committed for nationalistic reasons.
"These are really very dangerous crimes and we must react to them with maximum toughness," Medvedev said at a meeting with FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov on Thursday.
Such crimes "create problems for our country, let alone the fact that those are exceptionally severe and very dangerous crimes," he said.
Bortnikov, for his part, informed the president that nationalistic crimes had recently become more frequent.
"At this week's session of the National Anti-Terror Committee, I set the task of actively combating and reacting toughly to these crimes," the FSB chief said.
He promised to "localize" the situation and "restore order" in the nearest future.
