Court forms jury in case into attempt on life of Ramzan Kadyrov

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Moscow City Court, with a participation of a jury, will start to investigate a case into a plan to assassinate Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

"Today the court formed a jury made up of 16 people," said Murad Musayev, defense lawyer for one of the accused.

The jury includes 12 main and four supplementary jury members. According to the defense lawyer, the age of the jury members is between 40 and 45 years, and they are mostly women. "The session is scheduled for January 27, it will be a closed session," Musayev said.

The accused include Lorsa Khamiyeva, Umar Batukayev and Ruslan Musayev.

According to earlier reports, Lefortovo Court of Moscow sanctioned the arrest of Batukayev and Musayev on May 2007, following a request from the Federal Security Service (FSB) investigation department.

The FSB conducted an operation providing for security of the May holidays and suppressed the activity of a terrorist group which had planned a large-scale terrorist attack in Moscow.

The terrorist group consisted mostly of people coming from the North Caucasus. Its members are also suspected of committing terrorist attacks in the North Caucasus. The group members intended to use a car stuffed with explosives to assassinate Kadyrov, the FSB said.
