Belarusian army has world’s lowest crime rate – Defense Ministry

MINSK. Feb 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The Belarusian Armed Forces have the world lowest crime rate in the world, head of the fourth department of the main organization and mobilization directorate of the Belarusian General Headquarters Col. Sergei Puzakov said.

"The criminal activity rate in the Belarusian Armed Forces in 2008 was 3.6 crimes per 1,000 soldiers. This rate amounted to 10.9 in 1994. Now the Belarusian Armed Forces have the lowest crime rate among all armies of the world," Puzakov told a meeting of a club of military observers.

The number of suicides in the Belarusian Army was the highest in 1994: 42 suicides per 100,000. The number of suicides has now decreased by almost four times. "They are all linked to sicknesses rather than harassment which was the case earlier," he said.

For the first time no serious consequences of harassment was registered in the Belarusian Army in 2008, he added.
