Kyrgyzstan can postpone denunciation of Manas agreements - MP

BISHKEK. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kyrgyz parliament may not denounce the agreements with the anti-terrorist coalition countries concerning the withdrawal of the Manas air base.

"It is not ruled out that other air base agreements will never be denounced," Bakyt Beshimov, leader of the Kyrgyz Social-Democratic Party faction in the parliament, told journalists on Wednesday.

Kyrgyz lawmakers might choose not to denounce the eleven bills denouncing the Manas air base agreement with the anti-terrorist coalition.

"Deputies received documents on denunciation with eleven countries last week. Then we will have to hold talks with the countries we ratified agreements with. It is not ruled out that the remaining denunciation agreements will never be denounced," the MP said.

"The fact is that the international situation around the withdrawal of the Manas air base from Kyrgyzstan remains complicated. Moreover, while on a working visit in Bishkek on February 20, European Union's special representative on Central Asia Pierre Morel made it clear that the EU expects the country's authorities to give clear explanations on the matter. He also said that the EU is not satisfied with the Kyrgyz government's rationale for breaking the agreement with the U.S.," the faction leader said.

"The parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, nation-building, legitimacy and rights made no notice on when the issue will be examined," he said.
