MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Association (KnAAPO), which is part of the Sukhoi group, has commissioned Russia's first automated fuselage mating facility made by German company Brotje to speed up its production of Sukhoi Superjet 100 medium-haul aircraft.
"The stand will substantially facilitate the process of leveling up fuselage sections. Before, putting up just one of the five sections would take up to three days. Now the whole process will take one day," Sukhoi said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
Now fuselage mating is an automatic, computer-aided process involving two operators at the control panel, the statement said.
"KnAAPO employees working at the stand were trained by Brotje specialists and received certificates for equipment maintenance and operation," Sukhoi said in the press release.
