Protests held in Baku against opening of Turkish-Armenian border

BAKU. April 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Azerbaijan's Muasir Musavat ("Modern Musavat") Party held unauthorized protests outside the Turkish embassy in Baku, against a possible opening of the Turkish-Armenian border.

Around 20 party activists, chanting "Karabakh!" and holding banners, which read, "Armenians are our common enemies," came up to the embassy grounds, an Interfax correspondent reported.

The picketers read out a protest resolution stating that the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border is currently unacceptable. Turkey must not open the border with neighboring Armenia unless the latter drops its territorial claims on Turkey, frees Azerbaijan's occupied territories and stops seeking recognition of the Armenian genocide, the document said.

The opening of the Turkish-Armenian border is seen by the Muasir Musavat Party as "a betrayal of the entire Turkic world," the resolution said.

The document was handed over to the Turkish embassy officials.
