MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax-AVN) - NATO countries are displaying keen interest in Russian-made less-lethal weapons, Konstantin Biryulin, a deputy director of the Russian Federal Military-Technological Cooperation Service, told Interfax on Wednesday.
"As regards interest in less-lethal weapons, there is great interest in them. NATO countries and even NATO itself are displaying particular interest in this issue," Biryulin said.
"There are a number of programs of cooperation with NATO, under which the alliance would like to exchange information on manufacturing less-lethal weapons," he said.
"There are a number of contacts" in this area, he said.
The Federal Military-Technological Cooperation Service controls supplies of military products, and exports of less-lethal weapons are supervised by other agencies, Biryulin said. "This is not within our purview, but it is known that there are proposals regarding less-lethal weapons," he said.
Various models of Russian-made less-lethal weapons are being displayed at the Integrated Safety and Security Exhibition 2009 in Moscow, which is to last until May 22.
