MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and Ukraine will exchange information on portable surface-to-air missiles (SAM) Igla and Strela, the Russian Federal Service on Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) reported.
"The Russian government and the Ukrainian Cabinet signed an agreement on the exchange of information on portable surface-to-air missiles Igla and Strela in the event of their export to third countries or import from third countries in Kyiv on Friday," the Federal Service on Military-Technical Cooperation said in a report obtained by Interfax on Friday.
Such agreements were earlier signed with several other CIS countries.
This work is being conducted in accordance with the decision made by the CIS Heads of Governments Council on September 19, 2003 on measures to control international transfer of portable surface-to-air missiles Igla and Strela. The purpose of this work is to increase the effectiveness of the fight against international terrorism.
The agreements envision registration of transferred surface-to-air missiles and exchange of information on their transfer.
