MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Transition to the brigade-system carried out as part of the current reform in the Russian Army will not affect the Airborne Troops, said Lt. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov, Airborne Troops Commander.
"The division system will remain the basis of the Airborne Troops which have their own characteristics," Shamanov told journalists on Wednesday.
"In the absence of large-scale collisions between large masses of troops, the Airborne units and formations, from a reinforced squad to a parachute landing regiment," can act on their own, he said.
"This is why the four-part system [Airborne Troops - Division - Regiment - Battalion] is optimal," the commander said.
