BISHKEK. June 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Accomplices to international terrorists have been detained in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's State National Security Committee reported.
"Agents of the State National Security Committee have detained a citizen of Russia, born in Kyrgyzstan, and seized a combat grenade and extremist audio materials from him," the National Security Committee said in a press release on Tuesday.
It was established that, "the person detained had undergone training in a terrorist center in Pakistan and arrived in Kyrgyzstan to prepare legalization of other members of international terror organizations," the press release says.
Two citizens of Kyrgyzstan were also detained. One of them helped channel terrorists into the country from abroad and the other made false passports for members of extremist organizations and human traffickers," it says.
Criminal cases have been opened following the detentions.
Special operations were held in southern Kyrgyzstan on June 23, 27 and 29 against militants of the Islamic Jihad Group, which is part of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Nine terrorists were destroyed. A member of the Alfa special police task force died in hospital of wounds he sustained during one of the operations, and another remains in intensive care. Three police officers were also wounded in the sweep.
