TBILISI. June 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian delegation to the consultations starting in Geneva on Wednesday and involving the United Nations, OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), EU, the United States and Russia plans to raise the question of EU representatives monitoring the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"We intend to raise the question of the need for European observes monitoring the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and developing a mechanism of preventing incidents on the part of the Abkhaz side," Sergi Kapandaze, director of the Georgian Foreign Ministry department for international organizations, told journalists on Tuesday before departure for Geneva.
Meanwhile, experts in Tbilisi do not rule out the possibility that at the upcoming consultations in Geneva the Georgian side will partly accept Moscow's proposal on an agreement on the non-use of force.
"Naturally Georgian diplomats won't sign the agreement that actually stands for Tbilisi's recognition of the independence of Sukhumi and Tskhinvali but they can make verbal assurances of non-aggression on the separatist regions," Mamuka Areshidze, a political analyst, told the press. In his opinion, such assurances could serve as a certain compromise on Tbilisi's part.
