Russian Armed Forces should become compact, mobile - Serdyukov

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Armed Forces need to take on new qualities and to be able to reliably protect the country from present-day threats and challenges, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said.

"The interests of enhancing the defense potential and power of the Armed Forces require serious changes," Serdyukov said at a ceremony for graduates of military academies and universities hosted by President Dmitry Medvedev in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

"The Armed Forces should take on new qualities and become compact, mobile, well-equipped and capable of reliably countering contemporary challenges and threats," the minister said.
