Instability in Pakistan causes nuclear security concerns - expert

MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Instability in Pakistan and adjoining regions is a key threat to international nuclear security, PIR Center President and member of the Russian Defense Ministry Public Council Vladimir Orlov said.

In his words, the danger posed by Pakistani nuclear potential is unknown but worrisome.

"We have no confidence in Pakistan. What is more, we believe that the region is very unstable and highly sensitive to the risks of unauthorized access to nuclear armaments," he said.

North Korea ranks second, after Pakistan, on the nuclear insecurity list, while Iran ranks third, he said.

"Russia witnesses an unacceptable situation, in which North Korea ignores UN Security Council resolutions and wishes expressed by the Russian foreign minister shortly before nuclear and missile tests," Orlov said.
