MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan will not be creating any obstacles, should Russia and the United States decide to use the Gabala radar station in order to create a global missile-defense system, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with the "Saturday news with Sergei Brilyov" program.
"We are not going to create any obstacles in case Russia and America agree on global international security issues. Naturally, in this case Azerbaijan will be part of this process," said Aliyev, when asked whether Russia and the U.S. could use the Gabala radar station (a Russian defense facility) to create a global missile-defense system.
The issue has already been discussed earlier, the president recalled. "When we were approached on this subject, we took it positively and agreed to discuss the topic," said the Azeri president.
However, the discussion subsequently waned, with Azerbaijan unable to initiate the issue on its own. "If today they reignite interest and prompt serious discussions on this subject, we will certainly have our say," he said.
