MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, including Ukraine and Georgia, is a cornerstone of modern intentional politics, U.S. President Barack Obama has said.
This should be the foundation of the world order, the same as the right of nations to elect their leaders, to have stable borders and pursue an independent foreign policy, he said in a Tuesday lecture to graduates of the Russian School of Economics.
Obama added that this naturally applies to such countries as Georgia and Ukraine and also includes Russia and the Untied States.
The United States is interested in strengthening international law and order which would promote democracy and at the same time help to preserve sovereignty, he said
Obama said the United States is not trying to impose its system of government on anyone or decide for someone which party or individual will govern them.
He said that the Unites States is by no means an ideal country (from the viewpoint of democracy).
However, today it supports the democratically elected president of Honduras even though he is an opponent of U.S. policy, Obama said.
