MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian specialists will complete the construction of a spaceport in South Korea in July and will build a launch pad in Latin America by October, Anatoly Perminov, the head of the Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos, said at a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Friday.
"We plan to finish the work at the Naro spaceport in South Korea in July," Perminov said.
Two hundred Russian specialists are also continuing construction work at the Guiana Space Center near Kourou in French Guiana, Perminov said. The construction of a mobile service tower is nearing completion now, he said.
"As we planned, together with the European Space Agency management, we will finish the main work by October 30 and will start preparations for delivering our space rockets there. Then we will start preparing for the first launch roughly at the beginning of 2010," he said.
A spacecraft for the European navigation system Galileo might be launched during the launch of the Russian rocket Soyuz-ST from the Kourou spaceport, he said.
Roscosmos's negotiations with Egypt on building a satellite remote sensing system resulted in the signing of a contract, Perminov said. Roscosmos has also signed a space cooperation framework agreement with Nigeria and a contract for building a satellite communications system for Angola, Perminov said.
