MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The crews of the International Space Station (ISS) and the Endeavor space shuttle docked with it have repaired the U.S. air purification system that went out of order last Saturday, NASA representative at Russian Flight Control Sergei Puzanov has told Interfax.
"The breakdown occurred on Saturday. Now the system of collecting carbon dioxide has been repaired and operates as usual," he said.
He said there are many lithium cartridges aboard ISS meant for the removal of carbon dioxide from the air. The station also has a comparable Russian air purification system.
"The breakdown did not affect the flight schedule. The astronauts continue preparing for their final space walk," Puzanov said.
During their six and a half hour spacewalk Chris Cassidy and Tom Marshburn are to change the configuration of the DEXTRE manipulator and cable work on one of the station's sections, install video cameras and complete the transfer of cargo. The spacewalk is due to begin at 4:58 p.m. Moscow time.
