MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is not planning to deploy large groups of troops near Georgian borders in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, said Col. Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, a deputy chief of staff of the Russian armed forces.
"The Russian Federation is not planning this now. First, this is costly, and second, there is no need for this," Nogovitsyn said at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
The Russian military are closely following the way the situation in the region is developing and possible threats, and they are "calculating what consequences could follow this or that phase," Nogovitsyn said.
