Russian aircraft, helicopters to participate in West 2009 exercise

MINSK. Aug 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian military aircraft will be represented by a fairly large group at the West 2009 tactical strategic exercise to be held in Belarus in September, Col. Andrei Martynchik, acting Deputy Commander of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Troops and chief of aviation, told journalists in Minsk on Wednesday.

"Several dozen Russian Air Force aircraft and helicopters are due to take part in the exercise," Martynchik said.

The West 2009 exercise will include the landing of Sukhoi Su-25 and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 aircraft on road runways, he said.

As regards the cooperation between Belarusian and Russian military pilots, Martynchik said, "We are cooperating very closely, we are in regular contact and deal with matters on a day-to-day basis."
