Engine for An-70 plane ready for large-scale production - Motor Sich president

ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow region). Aug 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Zaporozhye construction bureau Progress and the Motor Sich company (Zaporozhye, Ukraine) have corrected the flaws of the D-27 engine for the new transport An-70 plane and is ready to launch large-scale production of the engine, Motor Sich President Vyacheslav Boguslayev told Interfax.

"Together with Salyut, we have made several engines, corrected all flaws, raised reliability and reduced the noise. Tests have been conducted and the engine is ready for large-scale production," Boguslayev said at the MAKS-2009 air show in Zhukovsky, Moscow region, on Monday.

Motor Sich is ready to begin work in this direction as soon as possible so that the An-70 does not become obsolete, he said.

The program to create the military transport An-70 plane is being realized by Russia and Ukraine under intergovernmental agreements signed in 1993 and 1999.

In 2006, Russia announced its intention to leave the program, but the withdrawal has not been made official yet. The An-70 plane is taking part in the MAKS-2009 air show.
