Abkhaz Security Council secretary steps down

SUKHUMI. Aug 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Secretary of Abkhazia's Security Council, Stanislav Lakoba, tendered his resignation on Tuesday.

One of the reasons for his resignation was "an event related to the amendments to the Republic of Abkhazia citizenship law passed by the Abkhaz parliament," Lakoba told journalists in Sukhumi.

Meanwhile, local observers believe the Security Council secretary might have resigned because of his plans to run for the republic's presidency or vice presidency.
