Russia, Ukraine to complete An-70 testing soon - military (Part 2)

ZHUKOVSKY, near Moscow. Aug 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The testing of the Russian-Ukrainian military-transport plane Antonov An-70 will be completed soon, Russian Air Force Commander Col. Gen. Anatoly Zelin told the media on Thursday.

"An agreement was signed on Tuesday between the Ukrainian and Russian defense ministries to complete the An-70 testing. We will concentrate on this task in the near future," Zelin said.

Besides the An-70, a new medium military-transport plane is being developed by the United Aircraft Corporation in partnership with India, he said.

Concerning heavy transport aircraft, the Russian Air Force will get an upgraded An-124-100 in the future, Zelin added.

In addition to this, talks are underway with Ukraine's Antonov, based in Kyiv, to extend the service life of the An-22 military-transport plane.

The Russian Air Force hopes that the production of upgraded Ilyushin IL-76 heavy transport plane in the Il-476MF version will be launched in Ulyanovsk, the commander said.

In the area of light military-transport planes, a plane based on the Il-112 project, is under development. The new plane will replace the An-26, he said.
