MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian authorities will be ready to consider the possibility of delivering Russian weapons to Afghanistan, should such a request arrive from Kabul, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin said.
"If an appropriate request arrives from the Afghan government, we will study it on the basis of Russian legislation and international norms adopted in this sphere," Borodavkin said.
Military supplies intended for the coalition forces in Afghanistan are crossing Russia "in compliance with simplified procedures introduced by bilateral intergovernmental agreements on the transit of military property and personnel through the territory of the Russian Federation, which were signed with Germany, France, Spain and recently the U.S.," he said.
"The land transit of non-military supplies intended for contingents of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) has been conducted through the territory of the Russian Federation in compliance with international and Russian customs rules," the Russian diplomat said.
A total of 500 such containers filled with non-military supplies, including food, office equipment, hygiene products, construction materials and timber, crossed Russia between March and August, he said.
