Russian Defense Ministry doesn't not plan to buy gear for Russian troops abroad - source

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is currently not conducting any negotiations with foreign companies on the purchase of gear for the Russian troops, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Tuesday,

"The Defense Ministry is not conducting any negotiations on this matter," the source said, commenting on the media reports stating that the Defense Ministry may start buying the FELIN gear, which was developed for the French Army, displayed at the MAKS-2009 air show.

"No negotiations are being conducted with representatives of the French industry and the defense enterprises of other countries on the purchase of gear for the Russian Army," the source said.

"At the same time, the Defense Ministry is studying closely the experience of the world's leading countries, including European, relating to military gear," the source said.

The source said the Russian Defense Ministry may buy military gear abroad in the future "if this gear turns out better than Russian-made gear."
