MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The first launch of the Angara light class space rocket is supposed to take place in 2011, Energomash research and production association General Director Dmitry Pakhomov told journalists.
"We are on the verge of flight tests of the RD-191 engines, which are planned for the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. The first launch of a light Angara with our engines is scheduled for the end of 2011," he said.
The production of RD-191 engines for Angara is proceeding according to schedule, Pakhomov said. "If the planned financing is provided, the Khrunichev space research and production center and we will make sure that the timeline of the Angara creation is observed," he said.
The Angara rockets are to be launched from the Plesetsk space center in the Arkhangelsk region and possibly from Baikonur, Kazakhstan.
