Putin allots almost 2 bln rubles for building Nerpa submarine

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has approved the allocation of 1.9 billion rubles for enlarging the capital of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

The ordinance was signed on August 27 and posted in the government databank.

The money will fund the fulfillment of order No 518 - the Nerpa nuclear-powered submarine under construction at the Amur shipyards, which is under the corporation's control.

The Federal Property Service and the Industry and Trade Ministry will provide the corporation by-issue within two months.

Earlier reports said that 20 people were killed and 41 others were injured after an unauthorized startup of the automated fire extinguishing system during the Nerpa's testing in the Sea of Japan on November 8, 2008.

The submarine is expected to be leased to the Indian Navy in 2009 for ten years for a charge of $650 million, according to the India media.
